History & Founders

Founded in 1995, the Academy of Music is Richmond’s premiere classically based music school. We work with each student individually to create the most beneficial and realistic program of study.

Students are matched with faculty and classes that meet their musical interests, learning style and musical goals. Private instruction can be combined with ensemble experience, theory and music history classes, special topic seminars, performance opportunities, and interactions with other musicians. As we teach our students to develop their musical talents, we also enhance their appreciation of music. Our mission statement says it all:

Everyone, no matter their age or experience, can have enriching musical experiences through instrumental study, musical ensemble participation and/or music classes.
