Music Exploration Institute

This class will explore Western music history in a broad fashion. The class will serve as an introduction to music of the Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century periods. The focus of the class will be on listening along with interdisciplinary links to history, architecture and other art forms.

Learn the language, terminology and mechanics of music. An introduction to the fundamentals of sound, notation, intervals, chords and musical forms.

This class is designed to help develop a keener sense for listening and is integrated with the music theory class. Each student will be able to distinguish between different intervals and chords.

We will take "breaks" to participate in Dalcroze inspired rhythmic movement activities. Founded by Swiss music educator Emile Jaques Dalcroze, Eurhythmics is a unique approach to developing musicianship through movement, ear training and improvisation activities.

Registration applications for the Music Exploration Institute must be postmarked by May 1, 2010; registration after this date is by space availability only. Registration includes a completed registration form and a non-refundable $100 deposit.

Once accepted, unless notification of withdrawal from the Music Exploration Institute is received in writing by May 1, 2010, the student and parent/guardian are considered legally responsible for payment of fees in full. All fees must be paid in full by July 1, 2010.

All applicants must be between the ages of 7 and 18 as of 1/1/2010.
